This is an old thread but are you having issues with tftp based netboot across subets on the newer i-series mac hardware? What I'm not finding a lot of clear information on is why layer-2 access to the NetBoot server is necessary.
I'd be curious xcross that goes. We have never noticed a problem.

If you have client machines on a network that is a different VLAN or on a different layer 2 broadcast domain than the DHCP and netboot server then you really do acdoss the DHCP helper command in order for anything to pass between the networks. Well I'm not sure what changed, but things seem to be working normal again. Everything I've found says that clients will do the normal DHCP negotiation first, also receiving the options in the config I posted above.

You can and should leave out the —kernel option since it is pointing to an non-existent file.
